Born on December 24, 1932, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Desai pursued his education at the University of Cambridge, where he earned a degree in law. He was called to the bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 1956 and returned to India to practice law. Desai’s legal career was distinguished by his involvement in several high-profile cases. He was appointed Solicitor General of India in 1989 and served as Attorney General of India from 1996 to 1998.
